AT&T Spends $1.925 Billion on FLO TV Spectrum!

With Sprint and Verizon touting their 4G advancements, it was only natural for AT&T to play catch up.  This week, AT&T and FLO TV announced an agreement for the transfer of the 700MHz wireless spectrum.  This frequency will be taken over by AT&T, which they claim covers over 300 million Americans.  It is presumed that this acquisition’s main purpose is to bolster AT&T’s upcoming LTE 4G plans.  As in the title of this article, the deal will cost a whopping $1.925 Billion!  The new frequency will require new devices to take advantage of it, because the current AT&T frequencies are 850MHz and 1900MHz.  AT&T has not announced when their LTE 4G network will be up and running, but with both CES 2011 and MWC 2011 coming up, we may see an announcement from AT&T.
