Microsoft Opens First Retail Store

First Microsoft Store

Coinciding with the release of Windows 7 last week, Microsoft opened its first retail store in Scottsdale Arizona. Hundreds of perople waited in line to get free gift bags, deals and to see what all the hype was about.

Some of the visitors were a little disappointed with the contents of the “goodie bag” but seemed to find some great deals and were apparently impressed with the store layout according to Fox News.

Microsoft previously  announced that it is actually targeting Apple with its own retail stores and is planning to open many of the new stores near existing Apple stores. A second store will  open in Mission Viejo, California this Thursday with others to follow shortly.

In a series of tactics aimed at “pwning” Apple,  Microsoft has hired former Apple real estate chief George Blankenship as a consultant to help with  their retail store plans and as we posted  a few weeks back in http://tech.cosmicthings.com/microsoft-lure/ has also tried to hire Apple’s own store employees. This ploy was to enable Microsoft to hit the ground running with experienced staff members at the ready.

Here is a little YouTube video showing the first day furor at the Scotsdale Store:
